Banaszewski (Lake Byllesby) Shoreline Stabilization Project
Lake Byllesby’s shoreline erosion and wildlife habitat are improved thanks to John Banaszewski’s efforts. The project involves removing an existing cinder-block retaining wall and replacing the mowed turf adjacent to the lake with a natural riparian buffer
zone. A row of boulders was installed to protect the toe of the bank from ice and wave action. Above this toe protection, John planted native grasses, dogwood shrubs, dormant willow cuttings, birch trees, and ash trees. John received a Community Conservation
Cost-Share grant for this project.
