Once you have completed the field verification phase of mapping land cover you are ready to digitize your mapped communities.
Maintaining a standardized digitizing process is integral to the MLCCS for merging data sets created by adjacent communities. To ensure the compatibility
of your communities data set with your neighbors, the same line quality and accuracy standards set for the interpretation process are also necessary for
the digitizing process. The DNR's MLCCS User Manual recommends that line error should be no more than 1/8" at a 1:3,000 scale resulting in a horizontal accuracy of approximately 30 feet.
A very effective way to digitize your field checked maps is to work section by section first digitizing the lines of your communities. For those polygons
extending into the next section, the lines can be left unfinished at the section edge until you are ready to move on to that section. In this way, you are
able to verify that all lines have been digitized one section at a time. After digitizing all lines for the communities within the section, you can then label
the polygons with their respective community types outlined in the MLCCS Manual, modifiers, and field verification. There should be 100% accuracy between the
labels lines on the field maps (paper) and the digitized versions.
