Low Impact Development Demonstration Projects
Project: Thompson Lake Rainwater Garden
Location: Thompson Lake Regional Park, West St. Paul
Partners: Dakota County Parks, Dakota County Highway, Dakota SWCD, Metropolitan Council, DNR, and Association of Metropolitan SWCDs.
Design Components: Soil correction, underdrain system, curb cuts, overflow riser, and native plantings.
Technical Details: ~3000 SF with a ponding depth of 8". Total storage is approximately 15,000 gallons. Overflow riser set at 6" depth and emergency overflow to existing storm drain set at 8". Soils were overexcavated to a depth of 4' and replaced with 1.5' of sand and 1' of compost topsoil. A 6" perforated tile was placed in a wrapped rock channel and tapped into the existing storm sewer to serve as an underdrain.

Project: Land 'O Lakes Infiltration Basin and Ravine Stabilization
Location: Inver Grove Heights
Partners: Land 'O Lakes, Dakota SWCD, Metropolitan Council, Emmons and Olivier Resources, Great River Greening, DNR, and Association of Metropolitan SWCDs.
Design Components: Pretreatment basins, filter swale, infiltration basin, and native plantings.
Technical Details: Treats 100-yr storm prior to discharge. Excavated soils from stormwater treatment area were used to stabilize the ravine.

Design Components: Installation of 17 rainwater gardens on 18 residential lots.
