Conservation Trees for Farm and Home Fact Sheet
The Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) annually
makes available thousands of trees to county landowners. These trees are
inexpensive, and are of the finest stock from wholesale nurseries here in
our state. We offer a wide choice of trees and shrubs in bundles of 25 per
each variety.
The Soil and Water Conservation District provides trees and shrubs
to hundreds of Dakota County residents every year.
Started many years ago to promote conservation and help folks create
a more beautiful, healthy and ecologically balanced environment, the SWCD's
Tree Program is considered by many to be a true community service. Many
of the countys shelterbelts, farmstead and field windbreaks, wildlife
habitat, and reforestation have been started as a result of this program.
In more recent years, housing developments, community beautification projects,
and boulevard plantings have been added to the list of uses under the tree
and shrub program.
- We encourage all residents to utilize the Tree Program to start or
add to their own beautification plans by purchasing stock from the SWCD.
Heres how the program works:
- An
order form is included in the winter newsletter. Everyone who has
ordered trees in the past should receive a copy of our newsletter. You
may also call and request an order form.
- Prices and varieties available are indicated
on the order form. Payment must accompany your order.
- Plan to pick up your trees/shrubs around the end of April at the Dakota
County Fairgrounds. You will receive a postcard about one week before delivery
with the specific pick up information.
- You may also want to take advantage of tree shelters, tree mats, and
fertilizer packets at nominal costs for each.
